Idag har vi varit ute och ridit med Eldhestar i Hveragerdi och njutit i fulla drag av den mäktiga naturen och de vänliga islandshästarna. 

Det kokar och ryker från marken och efter några timmars ridning var det underbart att bada i varma källor. Turen Hotsprings tog 7 timmar och nu på kvällen har vi checkat in på Eldhestars miljömärkta hotell (första hotellet som byggts enligt riktlinjerna för Svanen) med sköna hästenssängar.

Utanför finns det en härlig badtunna där man kan koppla av och ta in det vackra landskapet medan hästarna betar i bakgrunden.

Magical Iceland

Today we have been riding with Eldhestar to a wonderful place with natural hot springs. We got picked up by Eldhestar´s shuttle bus at our hotel in Reykjavik and met many nice people from all around the world excited to go horse riding. Our tour took 7 hours and we enjoyed the beautiful icelandic landscape and the friendly horses. Our group was small and we had 2 guides. Everywhere we could see smoke coming up from the ground and there was true magic all around us. We even tried the famous “tölt” and it felt like we were flying through the green landscape.

Later we checked in at Eldestar´s environment friendly hotel (first hotel in Iceland built according to Nordic Swan guidelines and ecological technology) and had a great time with a nice dinner and a relaxing bath in the hot tub.

In our room the waste bag had different compartments to separate various kinds of waste which was innovative. After the long day it was so nice to sleep in the comfortable Hästens beds (also eco labelled). The next morning we woke up with the best view ever, there were horses right outside our window!

We learned how to saddle and bridle a horse.

The view was amazing and we felt safe on the back of the horses.

Som att ha landat på månen, så kändes det när jag såg Island för första gången. Landskapet påminde lite om Argentina med dess berg och dalar och svindlande vyer. Man kan förstå att Game of thrones spelat in scener här då det är så öppet och vackert. Lavafälten är täckta av grön mossa och himlen är dramatisk och lägger sig runt omkring allt som en gigantisk slöja. Här och där puttrar det upp rök ifrån underjorden och det är som att befinna sig inuti ett konstverk.

Tall mountains and deep valleys

Like I have landed on the moon, that was my first impression of Iceland with its black lava fields. It reminded me later a little bit of Argentina with its impressive views of the landscape with both tall mountains and deep valleys. I can understand why they chose to shoot Game of Thrones here because of all beauty. The lava fields are covered in green moss and the dramatic sky covers everything like a gigantic veil. In some places it is boiling from the ground and it feels like being inside a painting.

Just nu planerar jag sommarens Islandsäventyr. Jag hoppas få se landets storslagna natur med allt från vattenfall till gejsrar. Vi vill komma riktigt nära naturen och ska därför vandra mycket och tälta på campingplatser. Det lär finnas 100 olika platser och sommartid är dagarna så långa så vi hinner nog se en del på de 12 dagar som vi har på oss. Det vore roligt att få se lunnefåglar och islandshästar och bada i blå lagunen.

Jag hoppas kunna finna företag med lokala guider som jobbar efter en miljöstrategi då Island har problem med bl.a. erosion. En stor del av landets energianvändning kommer från förnybara källor som geotermisk energi och strömmande vatten.

Till Island kan man ta sig med flygbolag som WOW air och Iceland air från t.ex. Köpenhamn. Vill man ha en paketresa finns det resebyråer som kan hjälpa en, t.ex. Vulkanresor som kan anordna rundresor med guide.

Among ogres and elfs in Iceland

Right now I am planning this summer´s Iceland adventure. I hope to see the countries great nature with everything from waterfalls to geysers. We want to come real close to the nature and will go walking and camping. There are 100 different spots to go camping and summer time the days are so long so we will probably have time to see a lot in the 12 days we have there. It would be cool to see puffins and iclandic horses and to swim in the blue lagoon.

I hope to find companies with local guides that work according to an environment strategy because Iceland has problems with erosion. A big part of the country´s energy supply comes from renewable sources like geothermic energy and hydro. From Copenhagen you can fly to Iceland with WOW air and Icelandair. Many companies arrange round trips with a guide, for example Swedish travel company Vulkanresor.
